September Game-A-Day Challenge: Week Two

Another successful week of our 30-Games-in-30-Days Challenge for September - though as we got into evening activities and classes this week, we found ourselves short on time a few days and had to play some quicker games...

Day Eight - Friday 8 September 2017 - Set/A Study in Emerald



We were in a bit of a rush to get a game in today as we'd had a busy day doing things and found ourselves with only a few minutes before people came over to play D&D (which we didn't end up playing, but more on that in a minute), so the kids and I banged out a quick game of Set while Finnegan was still finishing up his supper. He got off to a slow start - perhaps being distracted by the fact that he was still eating! Though as the game went on it was only him spotting them and I'm sure the last four or five were all him - and they are crazy sets where there were more different than the same. He nearly caught up to me and The Girl who tied at 9 (Finnegan ended up with seven). Usually good for some quick fun. The kids certainly had fun today. Occasionally if they're a little distracted and they're just not seeing the patterns and other players are getting ahead, they can get pretty frustrated - but not today!

After that was supposed to be D&D - but the two players who were the hook for the adventure (on an errand for the thieves guild master, which involved chasing someone into a trap-filled dungeon, and the two rogues didn't show up...). So instead we played A Study in Emerald.


between trying to figure out what the hell I was doing and explaining and re-explaining rules I totally forgot to take a picture while we were still playing - so here's one of everyone hanging around while I  was putting it all away... 

In the end it turned out that Bruce, Brian and myself ended up as Loyalists and Amanda and Adele were restorationists. It was odd because of all the times I've played it I think only once before I played the Loyalist faction. I had pretty much everyone figured out early in the game as we got close to the end I had my next couple rounds all figure out - I was going to get the Vienna City card (which I think might have wrought me up to Bruce in the points race) and then play a couple victory cards for the Loyalists (ensuring our victory) and then assassinate a few of the Amanda and Adele's restorationist agents.... Then bruce dropped Cthulhu on Vienna and killed three or four of my agents!? Thanks a lot Bruce!? WTF!? We're on the same team!? Of course that "same team" is servants of the Great Old Ones... so I guess he was just playing "in character". He and Brian then played a couple cards to up the Loyalist victory point track and ended the game... 

Anyway, it was great fun. I love this game.  


Day Nine - Saturday, 9 September 2017 - Compounded



Today I introduced the kids to Compounded (and reminded Amanda how to play - we'd only played it once before a month or so ago at our friends place). Fun game. Amanda edged me out by a point in the final tallying by using her book to pick up a piece that gave her ONE MORE POINT....



I'd originally picked the game up to play when we're learning some chemistry... but we haven't really gotten much into that. So I'm not sure the kids were getting much of the chemistry angle - luckily the game can be played with no real knowledge of chemistry - you just have to match the colours. We'll be starting to cover more chemistry this year, so I expect we'll be playing this a lot more. 


Day Ten - Sunday, 10 September 2017


We all played a quick game of Kingdomino between me and Amanda watching episodes of Walking Dead Season 7. I could have just quit watching and played games all night, but once we start watching a season of something Amanda feels compelled to see it through... Why do I keep watching Walking Dead? Probably the same reason I keep reading the comics (despite every time I finish a collection I feel like that's it - I'm not going to read anymore...) - because they keep making them! 


The Girl CRUSHED IT she ended up with a HUGE forest with FIVE crowns in it. Her total at the end of the game was 102!? 


I also though Amanda was going to do really well as she had three mine tiles - each worth SIX, but the rest of her kingdom was only worth one point each. Still, she did better than me!! I actually ended up having to discard my last tile as it didn't fit with any of the surrounding tiles.... doh... That's the first time I've had to do that in a game... I don't mind losing the game - but the little closeted OCD part of my brain was seriously disturbed by the fact that everyone else had nice square kingdoms and mine was... well... WRONG! 


Day Eleven - Monday, 11 September 2017 - Smash Up


Monday we played Smash Up. I've kind of gone off Smash Up. In fact, I've been rather sick of it for quite some time actually and have been avoiding playing it whenever the kids suggest it... but it's September Challenge month and one of the kids had it on their list, so... 

This game turned out to be a lot of fun actually... Maybe I just need Smash Up in small doses - like once or twice a year? The downside of not playing regularly is I have NO IDEA what groups work well with each other... but the kids are in the same boat, so I guess it doesn't really matter. 

I ended up playing the Kittens of Innsmouth, The Girl had Ninja Princesses, and Finnegan played Magical Pony Pirates. It turned out the kittens had a lot of 2 power things and ALL of the Innsmouth minions are 2 - and the Innsmouth set had a few things that boosted anything per two or less - so it seemed like I could get something cool going on, but I just couldn't get my ducks in a row... or kittens in a row - Ah! Well that explains it - I was trying to herd kittens. 

I forget who won - I'm pretty sure it was one of the kids - but it was a close game and everyone had fun, so... 


Day Twelve - Tuesday, 12 September 2017 - Carcassonne


Tuesday we played Carcassonne with the Inns and Cathedrals expansion. For a bit I was blown away by the high scores compared to our last game, but then remembered we were playing with an expansion which essentially added half again as many tiles... 


The Girl had this clever idea of placing a farmer in this... little area - almost a courtyard, really as she would be the only one who could possibly end up farming this area. It might have been a little more clever if she'd done it earlier in the game and could guarantee she could finish off all four cities.



In the end I squeaked out a victory a couple points ahead of Finnegan - requiting myself a bit after the disastrous defeat the last time we played. At the start of the game, the kids totally thought it was going to be a repeat of said previous game as they had PILES of point before I'd even got on the board - I just could NOT get the pieces in needed to finish off a city... so it just sprawled and sprawled and when I finally did score it, it was HUGE and I bought right up with them...


Day Thirteen - Wednesday, 13 September 2017 - Retro Lunacy/Star Realms

This week was getting a little crazy - trying to get back into the groove of fall activities and lessons and finish up an Education Plan and keep the renovation moving forward and so on and so forth. We'd planned for some longer games this week, but ended up changing most of them up for shorter games... Wednesday was no different...


We started off with four rounds of Retro Loonacy - the first round we played - as soon as the cards were flipped to start the piles Finnegan just put one card down after another and emptied his hand before Keira and I played a single card!! There were lots of laughs. I think we all won a round. 


We had a little bit more time so we busted out Star Realms. for some reason I've tired of Hero Realms already, but I still like Star Realms...? I am keen to try the co-op campaign that is supposed to be coming out for Hero Realms. I actually have a pack that allows you to play solo and co-op games in Star Realms as well, but we haven't tried that out yet. Perhaps next time... 

We kind of distributed damage fairly evenly amongst everyone - no ganging up on anyone this time around. Then I finished them off with the hand above. That's a game-ending pile of BLOB hurt I'm about to lay on them!


Day Fourteen - Thursday, 14 September 2017 - Firefly Fluxx


Finally, today was our quickest game yet! We played a quick game of Firefly Fluxx just before going to bed. I kind of won, but really didn't 


I realized as I was looking at the pictures I had taken I couldn't have won because there was not one, but TWO creepers sitting in front of me!? DOOOH!!! Neither of the kids called me on it, so... I think we'd had our few minutes of fun playing it and it was wearing thin and everyone was just happy that it was over and they could go back to reading or whatever...

I do hope we'll get some longer games in over the weekend and next week! Well maybe NEXT week... I'm pretty sure Amanda's going to want to binge-watch the rest of Walking Dead Season Seven tomorrow night, Saturday afternoon I'll bet she's planning on running around to more tiles countertop and tile stores trying to figure out stuff that probably should have been figured out months ago BEFORE I started wrecking our kitchen, and in the evening we're going out to a show... Maybe Sunday evening...? Is it possible I can get them to sit down and try Pax Renaissance..? We shall see! 


In Other News... 

Haven't been much movement on the painting front, just too busy with other stuff... and playing games. I do have most of the Tallarn re-based, primed and tucked away into their storage drawers - ready to paint whenever the mood strikes (and I'm done a few more Jet Bikes!).

Scout Sentinel

Not a jet bike... This was mostly finished on my workbench and I completed it to get it out of the way so I could have more space to spread out jet bike bits and get them assembled and painted (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!)



This is a Scout Sentinel model from Games Workshop. (and it is TM and © Games Workshop and assembled and painted by myself and posted here entirely without their permission)



It is the final thing I NEED to be able to field a complete Brigade Detachment of my Guaiacan Commandoes in 8th Edition 40K.



To fill the Fast Attack slots all my Scout Sentinels will have to be fielded as three individual units of one scout sentinel.



Ideally I'd like to field them in larger teams or troops, but that will have to wait...



I have two others to work on, but they're for the Tallarn...



All three of the Guaiacan Commando Sentinels. The one in the centre I picked up off eBay already assembled (which is why it doesn't have the camo-laced roll bars.

As I'm pretty sure there are no Catachan Roughriders (at least not any GW ones, there are THESE, however), Sentinels are pretty much the only real Fast Attack option (okay there is the flame-tank, but I like the idea of foot-mobile jungle fighters without any armoured support). As I mentioned, at some point, I'd like to pick up 3-6 more of these to field them in teams of two or full troops of three!?

The only other thing I'm currently planning to add is a few more heavy weapon teams - I ordered a couple more las-cannons, mortars and auto-cannons off eBay to fill out those heavy weapons teams for the "Heavy Support" slots.  Once those arrive and I get them done I'll do another post with the entire force organized for 8th.

Now that I've got some space cleared away I'll get to a few more jet bikes - I did work on one for a bit last night. I'm having trouble coming up with paint schemes. I had thought I'd use vehicles of TV and cinema for inspiration - and I have for a few already - but jet bikes, being shaped entirely different than cars and vans and such, makes the translation of most a little challenging...

Another Jet Bike - More Tallarn

It's only a Command Squad - the Platoon Commander I actually painted almost seven years ago!


Tallarn Platoon Commander with Command Squad of veteran infantrymen. All of the figures are from Games Workshop (and are pictured here entirely without their permission). 

While the Officer is pretty "blinged" out with fancy armour and weapons, I didn't want to go crazy on the command squad - because they are frontline infantryman (the Company Command Squad... that's a whole different story), but I did want to do something to set them apart from the rest of the infantry in the platoon. 


Ultimately I went with black head clothes and fancy knives. 


Hopefully that makes them stand out a little bit. 


These are also figures I painted ages ago, but I thought I'd take a couple of new pics of them. Both are conversions.


This fellow is actually an Imperial Guard officer from Games Workshop that I converted to be a Tallarn commissar. 


This second Commissar is actually a Lawrence of Arabia figure from Artizan Designs that I added a bolt pistol to... 

Seriously - not painting any more of these until I get a few more JET BIKES done - ToonCon is just THREE WEEKS AWAY!!!


Here is ONE of the new Jet Bikes I finally finished up.


He's been mostly finished for some time I just couldn't decide on a number or logo or whatever and eventually went with the ToonCon logo (this one is for John - the founder and main organizer of ToonCon). 


Hopefully people will be able to tell it's the ToonCon logo (without me having to explain it!)

The Jet bike and pilot are from the Ramshackle Games Jet Bike Construction Kit Kickstarter - but the head is from Hasslefree Miniatures.

September Game-A-Day Challenge: Week One

...or was it the September 30-Games-in-30-Days Challenge? I can't remember... The idea is the same, we're trying to play a different game every day through the month of September, and we've just finished up our first week. 

Day One - Friday, 1 September 2017
Legendary and Tales from the Loop



In the afternoon I played a game of Legendary with the kids. I'd wanted to play a "quick" game so I'd have time to reread some of Tales from the Loop. Finnegan went and chose Mysterio as the Big Bad Guy (Mysterio is NOT a quick game...). He did come up with a good selection of Heroes, however, which worked together really nice - Spiderman, some Spiderfriends, Black Widow and... someone from the Deadpool Expansion? It actually felt like I was able to BUILD a deck that worked well. 

The Girl had a really good deck going on with a lot of Black Widow. She ended up with two cards that allowed her to do damage equal to the number of innocent bystanders she rescued, so we let her recuse ALL of them. I think she had ten by the end of the game, and on the last turn drew BOTH of those cards! 

It was a fun game - even if it did take a little longer than I would have liked! 

Later in the evening I did start a game of Tales from the Loop - but we spent the entire three and a half hours making characters. I think it was the funnest session of making characters EVER! I'm actually glad we didn't get to playing the first adventure - partly because I didn't really have a chance to read through it and think it over, but also because the characters have so much depth I can try and weave elements of their own backgrounds into the adventure a bit better! Looking forward to actually PLAYING Tales from the Loop, but that probably won't be until October now...

Day Two - Saturday, 2 September 2017 
Forbidden Island

I'd hoped to run the family through a game of Pax Renaissance in the afternoon, but in the end Amanda dragged me all over the north end of town to look at tiles of backsplashes and dishwashers and sinks and taps and such... in the end we only had time for a quick game before watching a few movies I'd picked up at the library earlier in the day. 



So we all played Forbidden Island. I played the Engineer (can shore up two tiles with one action), The Girl played the Helicopter Pilot (with one action can move to any tile on the map), Amanda played the Navigator (can move other players two spaces with one action), and Finnegan played the explorer (can move or shore up on diagonals). Finnegan quickly picked up the golden lion. Keira grabbed the flame ruby thing. Amanda grabbed the bluish-green chalice. I nabbed the purple globe... and then the helicopter landing pad flooded and we lost... 

so close...

Ah well. It was going really great until then. Afterwards Finnegan pointed out that if I'd shored up the helicopter pad BEFORE moving to the place where I got the globe-thingie (because I had started next to the pad), we totally would have made it out... So... it's ALL MY FAULT we lost... 


Day Three - Sunday, 3 September 2017
A Study in Emerald (Second Edition) 


Again, I had planned to run the family through Pax Renaissance, but we kind of ran out of time. I suggested A Study in Emerald, because the last time we'd played we were getting games down to 30 minutes. This wasn't QUITE so quick because Amanda had kind of forgotten how to play and what you were supposed to be doing... 

The Girl looks a little grumpy because, as we found out at the end of the game, she was a Loyalist . AGAIN. She HATES playing the Loyalists 
(as in loyal to the dark gods that have seized control of the world!)but almost always seems to end up being on the Loyalist side ! 

Amanda gave up her identity pretty early by assassinating one of my agents. I'm pretty sure it was obvious from the get-go I was a Restorationist as I grabbed three restorationist agents in the first few turns, along with St. Petersburg (which can be played for Restorationist VP).

I ended up playing 8 Restorationist VP - and the Loyalist hadn't played one all game - which is pretty much what brought the game to an end. I don't think The Girl was trying very hard, though. 



The sh!t about to get real in Madrid! (Well, not really... I just went there in force to snatch up that City card and make sure Amanda couldn't assassinate any of my agents!)

Finnegan, it turned out, was also a restorationist (which I had suspected, but didn't know for sure).


Day Four - Monday, 4 September 2017 
7 Wonders

Monday was Labour Day. Amanda seems to be under the impression that on Labour Day one must do hard labour and decided WE MUST WRECK MORE OF THE KITCHEN!! So... still no Pax Renaissance... 



Instead we got in a quick game of 7 Wonders at the very end of the day. I got skooled by the lot of them. Oi! I just could not focus on any one sort of thing and didn't do well at anything. I think I was trying too hard to make things work with the Leaders I had, and should have just not bothered... Amanda did amazingly well, and the kids weren't too far behind her. It was a fun distraction from the utter chaos our house is in at the moment. 


Day Five - Tuesday, 5 September 2017 
Small World: Underground



The kids and I played Small World: Underground

I started the game with Vampire Mummies - mostly because they sounded cool... They weren't THAT cool. I only got to use the vampiric ability once during the game (there was a second time that I could have used it, but forgot...). You do get a LOT of guys with the Mummies - but it cost an extra token to take over stuff... So they're a bit ponderous, but often leave your places well defended. In the first turn I got two popular places - one that controlled a Balrog and another than gave bonus points for each of the same type of location (which happened to be mushroom forests). I think by the end of the third turn I controlled ALL of the mushroom forest areas on the map and was bringing in 13 gold per turn, which the kids weren't even close to doing. So I was willing to just sit on that and collect my 13 every turn...

Then Finnegan went into decline with his first race and took Fisher Shrooms and we started battling for control of the mushroom forests - which, ultimately, doomed us! A turn later The Girl was brining in 17 (SEVENTEEN!) gold per turn and we were both brining in six or so... I eventually took back control of the mushroom forests, but the damage had been done.
Then I lost control of Balrog. 

I put the mummies into decline and took some Wise Cultists and seized control of the area that controlled the Balrog, but wasn't able to do much of use with it at that point.

The Girl ended the game with 132 gold, I had 115, and Finnegan had somewhere around 85?


Day Six - Wednesday, 6 September 2017 
Star Trek: Five Year Mission

Wednesday we played Star Trek: Five Year Mission. We actually played with the Next Generation crew this time, which we've never done before. I played Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Finnegan played Commander Riker and The Girl played Dr. Beverly Crusher. 

It's been a LONG time since we last played so I don't know if they were any different from the original series crew. We played at the easiest level - also because it's been so damned long - and we actually won! Wasn't even that hard - definitely have to play at the Lieutentant level next time. I would have suggested that we continue on, but we had the Communication Failure card in effect (players are not allowed to communicate with each other in any way!?) and still needed ones on two red and one yellow to resolve it, so... I kind of let it go and called it a win and a night... 

I feel I'd like a different Star Trek game... This is okay, but a little abstract. I don't LOVE dice games and we already have Elder sign if I feel the need to just roll dice. We do have Star Trek Catan - which we'd actually bought for my dad for xmas a few years back, but he's since passed it on to us. I only played it once (it's also the only Catan game I ever played) and I just don't care for it. Star Trek: Ascendancy looks COOL but it's also a bit pricey and it looks like another 4X game... do I NEED ANOTHER 4X game!? Actually I don't personally own that many - but within the members of this group, there are LOADS...

Star Trek Panic? Maybe? Anybody out there played it? I've never played any of the Panic games. Has anyone played Star Trek Panic? fun? does it fit the theme? Are there any other Star Trek games out there!?

Day Seven- Thursday, 7 September 2017 
Dominion

Today we decided to play Dominion. I decided to let Finnegan come up with a group of cards for us to play with.


He does enjoy putting little themed sets together. So he came up with a set of cards from Intrigue (Mining Village, Bridge, Scout, Trading Post, and Margrave) , Hinterlands (Oasis, Silk Road, and Nomad Camp), and Guilds and Cornucopia (Hamlet, Horsetraders). The theme for this one was "Trade Beyond the Borders". The Thematic sets he comes up with  have more to do with the THEME of the cards rather than whether any of them will actually work together or not... We don't play nearly enough to have any clue what works together... 


These weren't too bad. There were some that we've played with before and I kind of had an idea how to play with them. Others we had never played with (or I've forgotten about playing with them) and had no idea what to do with them - just couldn't wrap my head around some of them. 

So we got off to a slow start and I felt like I just couldn't get the deck working and then all of a sudden the Hamlets were gone and then the Duchies were gone and just started buying up whatever victory point card I could - I think there must have been at least a half dozen turns where I had a bridge and 6 gold - one short of being able to buy a province, but I WAS able to buy a Silk Road AND an Estate... meanwhile the kids were still adding actions to their decks!? I tired warning them that the game was just about over and they should just try and pick up whatever victory cards they could - Estates and Silk roads if they couldn't afford Provinces, but they kind of turned their noses up at those... 


I think I had one of my highest scoring game ever and left both kids in the dust - doesn't happen often, they usually destroy me at Dominion. It's been a while and they weren't on their game, but I'll take it!

Other than that...? I have been working on rebasing and priming most of the Tallarn and I've even been painting a few.

So... This Arrived...

(Because apparently ONE Imperial Guard force just wasn't enough...)

This morning while I was out this boxwood of goodies arrived:


They're all long out-of-print Tallarn Imperial Guardsmen from Games Workshop.


Here's what they look like deployed with the few that I already had.

When I get these all painted I should have about 1500-point Brigade Detachment.

4x Special Weapon Squads (or “Light Anti-Armour Squads” as I like to call them - distributed between platoons or under company command as required- 2x Plasma, 2x Melta) 

1x Roughriders

2x Scout Sentinels

That makes: 
5x HQ (Company Commander, 2x Platoon Commanders, 2x Commissars) 
10x Troops (Infantry Squads) 
7x Elites (3x Command Squads, 4x Special Weapon Squads) 
5x Heavy Support (Heavy Weapon Squads) 
3x Fast Attack (1x Rough Riders, 2x Scout Sentinels)

Actually, I just realized I am ONE MELTAGUNNER short of this (I need one more to finish a Meltagun Special Weapon  Squad... GAH!  So, if anyone out there has got one...? I probably have stuff I could trade...?).

I do have an assortment of Psykers and special characters I could add to the force as a separate detachment. I do have a pair of Leman Run tanks I could paint up an Tallarn Khaki for some HEAVIER support. At some point I'd definitely add a 2-4 more Sentinels to the Scout Sentinel troops. But maybe I should start with just getting all of THESE assembled and painted! 

The really crazy thing is I ALSO just picked up a few more metal Catachan heavy weapon teams to add to my Guaiacan Commandoes - needed for the 8th Edition Re-Org

There will likely not be any painting updates for a little bit as things are about to get CrAzY around here - all the kids activities kicking off... Kitchen Reno forging ahead... Home Education plans still to be finished up and submitted by the 15th... Busy-busy-busy!! 

(Although I just got a notification that Walking Dead Season Seven just arrived on hold for me at the library and I'll have a week to watch that... so maybe I WILL get some painting done over the next week or so! Probably won't be Tallarn, though - I NEED to get cracking on a few more Jet Bikes! Looks like five people are already signed up for my Faustus Furius: 3000 game at ToonCon!)

Tallarn Infantry Section


A few years back I started a small collection of old Games Workshop Tallarn Desert Raiders. I had no intention at the time of playing Warhammer 40K, I just liked the idea of sci-fi dessert warriors. Over a couple years I picked up a few smaller lots warriors and heavy weapon teams at the time for a not-too-unreasonable price… but over time those lots got fewer and further between. Now they seem to mostly sell individually for $10 a piece PLUS SHIPPING (which is often eve more than the cost of the individual figure….), heavy weapon teams and individual roughriders (which are often missing parts – like, the HORSE) often start around $30 (also not including shipping). Who could possibly put together an entire force at those prices!? Maybe a millionaire… but not me, so I kind of gave up on the idea and was happy with the small platoon-sized force that I had… should I ever get around to PAINTING them!?

Last week I was snooping around on ebay (Looking for Catachan heavy weapon teams to add to my Guaiacan Commandoes – as part of my 8th Edition Reorg.) and I stumbled across a HUGE lot of Tallarn minis… about 70 infantry, 15 heavy weapon teams and 9 roughriders (complete with horses and hunting lances)!? And all for… well… not a million dollars! Not even a thousand!? And willing to take offers!

So… I made an offer…

And now I have a rather large force of Tallarn miniatures on the way! 

So I thought I best get to painting a few of the ones I ALREADY OWN!?


One squad of Tallarn Desert Raiders from Games Workshop (They are © and ™ Games Workshop and painted by myself and posted here entirely without their permission.)

Initially I'd gone with plain khaki smocks, but then I decided to add some subtle camouflage... I wasn't sure if it was working for me at first - I felt it mostly muddied the works, but I'm kind of warming up to it now. 

With the ones that I have inbound I think I figured I’d be able to put together a 1500-point Brigade Detachment with them.

5x Infantry Squads (each with: Sergeant chain sword and plasma pistol (or bolt gun?), 6x Guardsmen with Lasguns, 1x Guardsman with grenade launcher, and 1x Missile Launcher Weapons Team)

5x Heavy Weapon Teams (distributed between platoons or under company command as required- 2x Lascannon, 2x Autocannon, 1x Heavy Bolter)

4x Special Weapon Squads (or “Light Anti-Armour Squads” as I like to call them - distributed between platoons or under company command as required- 2x Plasma, 2x Melta)

2x Scout Sentinels

That makes:
5x HQ (Company Commander, 2x Platoon Commanders, 2x Commissars)
10x Troops (Infantry Squads)
7x Elites (3x Command Squads, 4x Special Weapon Squads)
5x Heavy Support (Heavy Weapon Squads)
3x Fast Attack (1x Rough Riders, 2x Scout Sentinels)

At some point, if I ever get these all finished and, you know, actually start PLAYING with them… I’d like to expand the Scout Sentinel Sections into troops of three sentinels (currently each sentinel is a unit of one all on its own). I was also thinking of scratch-building a sniper section (prone miniatures under tarps/ghillie suits with only legs sticking out one end and a rifle barrel or binoculars sticking out the other). If I get really crazy I could add a detachment of armour to the force… but I kind of like the idea of a purely foot mobile raiding force. Maybe a Marauder Airwing Detachment!? (Sweet Jiminy! £300 for three aircraft!? That would cost more than the rest of the force combined!) Thematically I like the idea of air support for a foot-mobile raiding force rather than armoured support, but WOW those are crazy expensive.  

I have NO IDEA how this will work as a force in 40K… but it seems like fun to me, and that’s what’s important, right?

(Actually, from my cursory look over the rules and scenarios, it seems to me that have a LOT of low point units could be a significant disadvantage as there are a lot of scenarios where you score points per unit whipped out. So, if I have a force of THRITY units and I’m fighting against a force that’s made up of a small number of high cost units (say, 10?) and we each destroy half of the other force… well they’ll score 15 points and I’ll score 5…. Ah well, the Imperial Guard is just supposed to be a speed bump until those bloody glory-boys the Space Marines can show up and clean up the mess, right?)
